A Montana ranching family

Montana Bucks & Ducks was started over 25 years ago by Bill and Mary Kemp, who built a reputation for honest, high-quality private-land hunting in southwest Montana. Blade and Kara Schuett both spent years guiding for Bill, with Blade guiding hunts and Kara guiding fishing out of his Healing Waters Lodge in Twin Bridges. When the Kemps were ready to retire, they asked Blade and Kara if they would like to carry the business forward. In 2021, Blade and Kara purchased Montana Bucks & Ducks and have been committed to preserving the same hospitality, ethics, and hunt quality the Kemps were known for.
Today, Montana Bucks & Ducks operates on working ranchland outside Dillon. The property includes more than 40,000 acres used for hay and cattle production. Much of this same ground is lightly hunted and reserved exclusively for our clients.

As ranchers first and outfitters second, we see hunting as part of a bigger stewardship picture. The irrigation, farming, and habitat work we put into the land benefits deer, elk, pheasants, and waterfowl. A portion of the property is enrolled as a state-regulated hunting preserve, which allows for the legal release of birds and helps us offer reliable wingshooting while protecting the health of wild populations. We are very conservation-minded, and we limit pressure, hunt in small groups, and manage our wildlife resources to maximize the land's full potential over the long term.

Blade grew up in the ranching life. When he is not guiding, he is irrigating fields, fixing fence, moving cows, or improving habitat on the same ground you will hunt. His favorite days are in the elk woods with a bow in hand or in the blind on a cold morning, watching ducks and geese work into the decoys. For Blade, guiding is not a seasonal job; it is an extension of how he lives and works on this land.

Kara grew up in the mountains of Idaho, where she learned early how to hunt, fish, and feel at home outdoors. After moving to Dillon in 2012, she followed her passion for fishing and built a career as a professional guide and outfitter. She is the founder of Yellow Sally, a women's and girls' fly fishing apparel brand, and when fall arrives, she transitions into guiding hunts and hosting women's hunting retreats. Kara and her husband are raising their eight-year-old son, Ridge, on the same values she grew up with: hard work, respect for wildlife, and care for the land.
Over the years, Montana Bucks & Ducks and the ranch have been featured in a variety of hunting, fishing, and outdoor publications.
